Want to really empower your children? Don’t teach them to be fearful. Teach them to be discerning.

The persistent reaction of fear is the trademark of a powerless person, someone whose world happens to him, a victim.

Discernment is the response of a powerful person who is in control of himself.

Fear doubts God, self and others, while discernment trusts God, self and others. Fear second-guesses; discernment decides with confidence.

Offering our children choices with clearly defined rewards and consequences, we teach them to slow down, think and discern.

Let’s empower our kids with the skill of discernment, instead of fear, a powerless response.

Do you fight with making too many decisions for your kids or do you let them choose regularly? Let me know in the comments. [I struggle with this one.]
